Creative Beans After-School Club
A series of workshops has been developed to fit into the format of an after-school club. These take place in schools in Hampshire, in the Winchester area.
The after-school club runs independently of the school, but take place on the school’s site.
The workshops are offered to the children as an extra-curricular activity; however the teaching content ties in closely with learning objectives in the National Literacy Strategy.
Who is it for?
The after-school workshops are suited to pupils of all writing abilities from Year 4 – Year 8. The only necessary ingredients are a love of stories– whether reading or writing – and a lively imagination.
More able pupils: The workshops are ideal for gifted and talented pupils who benefit from being extended in their work.
Reluctant writers: Creative Beans workshops are invaluable catalysts for encouraging reluctant readers and writers to get excited about stories. The workshops help children discover the fun of being creative and using their imagination.
Times and dates: The after-school workshops run once a week over five consecutive weeks. Each session is an hour and a half long and can begin at a time convenient with the school timetable.
Venue: The workshops can take place in any classroom. All other resources are provided by Creative Beans.
Content: Please click here for a detailed breakdown of the five sessions.
Content Summary:
Over the five sessions, pupils learn how to use the three essential ingredients to a story: plot, character and setting. During the penultimate session, pupils learn to edit their work effectively whilst also offering constructive feedback to their peers. The small number of pupils enables children to receive close attention and personalised teaching.

Cost: The Creative Beans after-school club costs £10 per session for each child. I request that the five sessions are paid for in advance. Each child receives one complimentary copy of their book of stories.
Additional copies of the book can be purchased at £10 per copy.
Size: There needs to be a minimum number of 5 pupils and a maximum number of 10 pupils per session.
