One-Day Workshop
The one-day workshop runs during halfterm holidays, from 9.30am – 3.30pm.
Morning
During the morning, children work in groups of two or three, and combine their creativity to write a collaborative story. The children develop the characters, settings and plot together in their group before deciding how to divide the writing between themselves. A loose theme is provided to weave a common thread through all the stories.
As with the four-day workshops, word-level and sentence-level activities are used to stir creativity and inspiration. The children are given opportunities to increase their vocabulary and grow in confidence with handling language.
The tuition on characters, settings and plot is supported by extracts from a range of children’s literature. By the end of the morning, the children complete their story and learn how to be effective editors of their own work.
Afternoon
The afternoons are led by Lucy Panes, a professional illustrator. She provides the children with various techniques and inspiration to help them produce an excellent illustration that both complements and enhances their writing.

The Finished Product
The stories written and illustrated by the children are compiled into a professionally printed book. Each child receives a copy of their book, included in the cost of the workshop. Additional copies are available to purchase separately.
Please note that whilst home-made brownies are provided at break time, we ask the children to bring a packed lunch with them for these one-day workshops.
